More than 40 grades 1-8 students from the Sudbury Math Circle had the unique opportunity Friday to learn from a University of California, Berkeley, math professor.

Zvezda Stankova visited the gifted math students during the Sudbury Math Circle Challenge at Glad Tidings Academy on Friday.

'These kids are exposed to a high level of education,' Stankova said.

'It's wonderful to see that at such an early age.

'I'm amazed at their development and enthusiasm...'

'What I taught them was Olympiad Problem Solving,' Stankova said...

She said the Sudbury Math Circle was a junior version of the Berkeley Math Circle.

The local circle was adopted as a chapter of the Berkeley Math Circle. The math challenge was organized to nourish the students' interest in the subject, and to end the school year.

'Having the professor here is phenomenal,' said Sharon Madison, chairwoman for the circle and the gifted math teacher at the academy.

"She really engaged and enthralled the students, even the six year olds."
