Enthusiasm and energy of numerous individuals is a driving force of the Berkeley Math Circle. Without generous hospitality of Berkeley Math Department, we wouldn't have a place where to hold our sessions.
Berkeley Math Circle does have a participation fee, but we try hard to keep it low. It is well beneath the market value.
However, running a program such as Berkeley Math Circle requires much more money. We need to pay honoraria to our instructors and graders. We need to give a compensation to circle assistant (usually undergraduate student at UC Berkeley). We try to give scholarship to a few students whose families can't afford to pay the fee. And we try to give books as prizes to the winners of math competitions.
Apart from the parents fee, we have to count on government grants that are, sadly, very unreliable. A few times in the past we didn't have enough support from the government and we have been saved by research grants from UC Berkeley professors. However, we can't always count on miracles to happen.
Berkeley Math Circle would very much appreciate your donation. If you wish to donate, please write a check made out to "The Art of Problem Solving Foundation" and bring it to the Math Circle. On the note line please indicated that the donation is for Berkeley Math Circle.
